Three Book Meme
May 19, 2007 by Paula
Elena-Maria Vidal has tagged me with the following three books meme…
Three non-fiction books everyone should read:
1.In good company: the fast track from the corporate world to poverty, chastity and obedience by James Martin, S. J.— All career oriented people should read it. Specially those how have (or had) a burn-out.
2.The diary of happiness by Fr. Nicolae de la Rohia (Steinhardt)—I hope that one day will be translated from Romanian in English. Fr Nicolae tells his story: his convertion to Christianity in a communist prison and the happiness which, he discover subsequently despite being a prisoner of the Gulag.
3. Essays On Woman by Edith Stein
Three works of fiction that everyone should read:
1.Matryona´s House by Alexandr Solzhenitsyn—A little jewel not very well known.
2.The Brave New World by Aldous Huxley—Prophetic work.
3.A tale of Antichrist by Vladimir Soloviev
Three authors everyone should read (here I could not restrain myself at three):
Dostoievsky
C.S. Lewis
C.K.Chesterton
Thomas Aquinas
Walker Percy
Three books that nobody should read: there is no shortage here…unfortunately…
I tag (if they have time.): Br Charles, Br Freddie, Marie and Ginny, Joakim, Jeff, Cyrstal, Fmn, Rachel, Gabrielle and Don.

Good choices! I’ll try to do it tomorrow - thanks for tagging me
Crystal, I am interested what you will choose.
[...] 19th, 2007 Well I have been tagged by Paula for some book recommendations. There was some really interesting literature [...]
Done!
Oh, Paula, I like your choices better than mine!
Elena, I love your list. I hope that all the people making the meme or passing this blog will read it.
Thanks for the tag Paula; I’ll get to it soon!
Paula, I have responded to your tag. Thanks for thinking of me.
Don
Great list Paula. Fr. Martin’s book looks especially intriguing to me, speaking as someone who’s been burned out on corporate life and re-rejuvenated several times.
I have to think very hard about this one. Elena Maria’s choice of Fr. Sheen’s Life of Christ is a very compelling one that I’d have to second off the top of my head..
Paula
Thanks for tagging moi. I’ll work on my list later tonight.
You have quite a good list!
Paula
I will also be doing my list in a few hours. Though it is SO difficult to narrow down your choices to 3..there are SO many GOOD books out there that I have read waaaa lol.
I love your choices and I have many of Fulton Sheen’s works but I havent read them all including Life of Christ.
Ginny has done another excellent piece on the media war against women..this time it is Women Fight Back! YAY!
With love your friend and sis,
Marieeeeee xoxoxoo
Jeff,
do read the book of James Martin.Tell me what do you think please. I was burned out by the career oriented woman lifestyle.
Ginny-bella,
I barely wait to see your list
Marieeeeeeeeee,
3 is not enough I know…make the list as long as you want. See what will come out.
[...] Paula My dear Marie asked me via e-mail about Matryona’s House which, I mentioned in the meme book. Here is what I could find on the web and I want to share with her and with others who might be [...]
At first I wanted to write “let me play”, but as a rather new convert I realized that none of the books I might list I had read as a Catholic. Sadly, most of the Catholic books I have read recently, have made me wonder if I’m actually smart enough to be Catholic (O:
Paula, I’ve been thinking about it. I even got tagged by Gypsy after you tagged me. I hope to post mine soon!
Ohhh, wonderful, all. I will look at everyone’s choices a little later tonight, but Michael, show us your list, tooo –it was not only Catholic writings that led all (or led back all) to the Faith, you know. Love’s arrows are of many hues and textures, and they all point to the center, to the Heart of the World. Before I read any of the saints, I read the classics.. and many others. As Gabrielle notes today, God works in mysterious ways.
Paula, I’ve read Soloviev’s “Tales of the Antichrist” and what timely reading it would be right now for the world.. but with a certain blogger’s death, it has disappeared from being online… unless you know of a spot where it can be found again?
Dear Gypsy, sorry I do not know any Soloviev source online…thanks for commenting.
Hi Paula! Thanks for thinking of me. I put up my post today. I would love to read “The Diary of Happiness” by Fr. Nicolae, if it is ever translated. It must be very inspiring.
Gabrielle, I will look at your choices soon.:-). Nice that you made the meme.
